Hey guys hello!! I grew up in Brooklyn, NY. I went to college
at St. Francis in Brooklyn and graduated in
1964. I am 62!!

I saw Bobby Fischer play on numerous occasions
in the Marshall and Manhatten Chess Clubs. I
also saw him play in Washington Square Park in
some of their weekend tournaments in which I
participated.

I met Bobby Fischer in 1962. He was 19 and I was 19.
The Bobby Fischer that I saw play and the Bobby Fischer
that I personally met is not the Bobby Fischer that
started his rants and raves of the late 60's nor is he the
Bobby Fischer that I have read about and see today.

The Bobby Fischer that I remember was a very likeable
person, a truly great chess player and a chess genius.
I would like to remember that Bobby Fischer and not the
one I see today.

Something happened to Fischer starting in the mid
to late '60s. Seems to me that he is a very angry
person but at what, I really do not think he knows
for sure. His rants and tirades seems to me to be the
sign of an emotionally disturbed person.

I am happy that Iceland took Booby in as a citizen.
I hope he lives out his life there in happiness. I
rather doubt that he will contribute anything to
Icelandic Chess. I really do not think he will
participate much except by the use of his name.
I also hope that Bobby Fischer does not turn on
his Icelandic hosts but I really believe he will. He
is a sick old man. Not the Fischer that I want to
remember.

Also Best Wishes for Watai Miyoko! She is a very nice person, so I hope that Bobby treats her well and does not engage in "rants and tirades" against her, either!

We in Iceland dont expect him to start playing chess in Iceland,We saw this situation as a humanright issue, because nobody should spend 9 months in jail without beign charged with anything! We just like to give him shelter in his old ages, and I think history will prove that this was the right thing to do.If he turn un us ,so be it,he has his Icelandic passport now,and can go if he likes.

Bobby, be free and be fair. I understand he was asked on arrival if he had a short message for the world and he replied "Leave....me....alone" I think that is fine provided he will do the world the same courtesy. He has the right to live his life in peace, play chess or not play chess. But to foist his peculiar paranoia on the world? I hope not. Be at peace Bobby and put away the poison if you can. The world will never be able to thank you enough for the chess you gave us. In the name of humanity please let that be enough.
