Blitz Chess Does anyone have any tips relating to Blitz Chess?

I don't mean those mouseclicking contests or those 3 minute games. I am talking about 5 minutes and above, but not more than 15 minutes to play the whole game.

Don't flame me, I just joined the ICC and starting blitz for the first time in my life.

Thanks,

Axe

Knowing your opening really well can help by saving you loads of time. I play Ruy Lopez a lot and played in a 15 min game the other day, can lead to some interesting position early on, if you know em well can save loads of time. I had double my opponents time after just 10 minutes, from then on he was rushing and I had time to think.

Also learning how to play tactically and having good combinations can really help.

yah, know your opening, I would suggest you play the KIA or e4 in blitz and go after the initiative- this is very important, stay up on time, if you like a move but it looks ify and you cant calculate it out- just make the move the worst thing that can happen if you will lose. you should be able to make your first 15 moves in about 20 sec- this is what I do and I can beat a couple of experts in blitz-5 min
